Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does healthy food mean for Organic Happiness?

Healthy food with Organic Happiness stands for natural food. The use of products from nature that are free from color, smell or flavor additions. Products that are free from unnatural additions and that are preferably organically grown or produced. It is food that your body needs, filled with nutrients that give you energy. All recipes are free from refined sugars and with mostly organic ingredients. A lot of the recipes are gluten and/or lactose free as well. Easy recipes with natural ingredients that you can find in the supermarket.

Does healthy food take more time?

Of course healthy food takes more time than fast food for example, but that is definitely worth it. Firstly the flavors are better, it is better for your body and it gives you energy. The advantage of the recipes from Organic Happiness is that you can for example make a lot of recipes in the weekend. Almost all recipes can be kept in the freezer or for a few days in the fridge.

Is it possible that I don’t know all the ingredients?

Yes, definitely in the beginning when you start to eat (more) healthy, it is possible that some ingredients are new to you. I must admit that I got to know a lot of the ingredients also when I started to eat healthier.

I don’t have all the ingredients, what is the best I can do?

In the beginning I also didn’t have a lot of ingredients, I would say extend it step by step. Start with ingredients you need often, like for example coconut oil, oatmeal and baking soda. If you make another recipe with different ingredients you can buy those and slowly but surely extend your collection.
Where can I buy these healthy ingredients?

Most ingredients can be bought at the (organic) supermarket, health food store or the market place. You see regular supermarkets extend their healthy, natural and organic assortment more and more. Some ingredients require some searching, but when you have found them you know it for the next time.

Is it true that healthy food is much more expensive and why is that?

It is true that healthy food is a little bit more expensive than prepackaged meals. The costs don’t have to be much higher, depending on where you buy the ingredients. On the marketplace you can usually buy fruit and vegetables for a cheaper price than in the supermarket. But you will also get something back, because you are doing something good for your body. Besides that you will get more energy, feel more fir and stay healthy longer. Healthy food is probably more expensive because it is produced in much less amounts and organic food is more expensive because they don’t use pesticides on them. They have to beat the insects in another way that costs time and money.

How and how long can I keep the dishes?

Most breakfast recipes can be kept in the freezer, like for example breads, muffins and tarts. You can keep them 1-2 months in the freezer and outside the freezer 1-2 days. If you keep the breads in the freezer I would recommend cutting them before.

Most snacks can be kept in the fridge for a maximum of 2 weeks and in the freezer for 4-6 weeks. I would also recommend cutting banana breads and cakes into slices as well before putting them in the freezer. Dry snacks (like muffins or cookies) can be best kept outside the fridge. If you use a cookie tin you can keep them 1 week. Most snacks can be kept in the freezer for 6 weeks.

Smoothies are best to drink on the same day and keep in the fridge for a maximum of one day.

I see quite some recipes with banana, but I don’t like banana. How can I replace the banana?

Banana can have multiple functions in a dish, it can do something for the binding or the sweetness of a dish and is not always easy to replace. In a baking recipe the banana can be replaced by unsweetened apple sauce, pay attention that apple sauce is more wet than banana so you need a little less of it. Otherwise it will mess up the structure. For a bit more structure you can also pick dates. If you need banana for binding in a recipe you can replace it with egg.

How can I replace nuts in a recipe, I have a nut allergy?

You can replace nuts with seeds. You can for example use pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds or flax seed.

Are all recipes gluten- and lactose free?

Not all recipes are gluten and lactose free, most recipes are. If the recipes are gluten- and/or lactose free is stated with every recipe. Also is mostly stated what you can do to make the recipes gluten- and/or lactose free if it isn’t.

How can I replace egg in a recipe?

Egg has a binding function in most recipes and can be replaced in different ways.  If the recipe is sweet you can mash a half banana and mix it through the batter. With a savory dish (where you don’t want the banana flavor) you can add chia seed. Let 2 table spoons of chia seed well for 15 minutes in a small bowl of water and add the chia seed to the batter.

What does free from refined sugars mean?

There are many kinds of sugars, the refined sugars are the less healthy sugars that your body can’t process very well. Examples are powdered sugar, granulated sugar or basterd sugar. In the recipes of Organic Happiness are natural sugars used, like for example honey, maple syrup or sugars from fruit. Because there are natural sugars in these recipes they can’t be called ‘sugar free’.
Why can’t I find calories from the recipes?

With Organic Happiness we believe in healthy, natural and pure nutrition that feeds your body instead of filling it. That is why we don’t count calories ourselves, but feel what our body needs. That is also why we don’t write calories down at our recipes, but also because it can give a wrong image if you just looked at calories. An avocado for example contains 250 calories, but is much more nutritional for your body than a hot dog with the same amount of calories. We believe that nutritional food and a combination of fibers, proteins and fats is much more important than the amount of calories.
