Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Of course healthy food takes more time than fast food for example, but that is definitely worth it. Firstly the flavors are better, it is better for your body and it gives you energy. The advantage of the recipes from Organic Happiness is that you can for example make a lot of recipes in the weekend. Almost all recipes can be kept in the freezer or for a few days in the fridge.
Yes, definitely in the beginning when you start to eat (more) healthy, it is possible that some ingredients are new to you. I must admit that I got to know a lot of the ingredients also when I started to eat healthier.
Most ingredients can be bought at the (organic) supermarket, health food store or the market place. You see regular supermarkets extend their healthy, natural and organic assortment more and more. Some ingredients require some searching, but when you have found them you know it for the next time.
It is true that healthy food is a little bit more expensive than prepackaged meals. The costs don’t have to be much higher, depending on where you buy the ingredients. On the marketplace you can usually buy fruit and vegetables for a cheaper price than in the supermarket. But you will also get something back, because you are doing something good for your body. Besides that you will get more energy, feel more fir and stay healthy longer. Healthy food is probably more expensive because it is produced in much less amounts and organic food is more expensive because they don’t use pesticides on them. They have to beat the insects in another way that costs time and money.
Most breakfast recipes can be kept in the freezer, like for example breads, muffins and tarts. You can keep them 1-2 months in the freezer and outside the freezer 1-2 days. If you keep the breads in the freezer I would recommend cutting them before.
Most snacks can be kept in the fridge for a maximum of 2 weeks and in the freezer for 4-6 weeks. I would also recommend cutting banana breads and cakes into slices as well before putting them in the freezer. Dry snacks (like muffins or cookies) can be best kept outside the fridge. If you use a cookie tin you can keep them 1 week. Most snacks can be kept in the freezer for 6 weeks.
Smoothies are best to drink on the same day and keep in the fridge for a maximum of one day.
Banana can have multiple functions in a dish, it can do something for the binding or the sweetness of a dish and is not always easy to replace. In a baking recipe the banana can be replaced by unsweetened apple sauce, pay attention that apple sauce is more wet than banana so you need a little less of it. Otherwise it will mess up the structure. For a bit more structure you can also pick dates. If you need banana for binding in a recipe you can replace it with egg.
You can replace nuts with seeds. You can for example use pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds or flax seed.
Not all recipes are gluten and lactose free, most recipes are. If the recipes are gluten- and/or lactose free is stated with every recipe. Also is mostly stated what you can do to make the recipes gluten- and/or lactose free if it isn’t.
Egg has a binding function in most recipes and can be replaced in different ways. If the recipe is sweet you can mash a half banana and mix it through the batter. With a savory dish (where you don’t want the banana flavor) you can add chia seed. Let 2 table spoons of chia seed well for 15 minutes in a small bowl of water and add the chia seed to the batter.
With Organic Happiness we believe in healthy, natural and pure nutrition that feeds your body instead of filling it. That is why we don’t count calories ourselves, but feel what our body needs. That is also why we don’t write calories down at our recipes, but also because it can give a wrong image if you just looked at calories. An avocado for example contains 250 calories, but is much more nutritional for your body than a hot dog with the same amount of calories. We believe that nutritional food and a combination of fibers, proteins and fats is much more important than the amount of calories.
If the answer to your question was not here, you can always send us an e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org or leave your question in the comments of the recipe. We will try to answer it as soon as possible.
