Chocolate muesli bars with apple

Chocolate muesli bars with apple

“I wanted to make them for a long time, but I thought it would be really complicated.”

Chocolate muesli bars with apple. These healthy muesli bars are really easy to make. They fill very good, are gluten free and by making them in the weekend you always have a nice snack during the week.

Muesli bars, I used to eat them a lot until I found out how many chemicals and sugars are in them. I wanted to make them for a long time, but I thought it would be really complicated. That is why I had postponed it for a while, but last weekend it was time to finally bake them and with success!

Jens thought they tasted just as good as the ones from the supermarket and I like to hear that! I also liked them a lot and worried for nothing because making them was really easy. You can also vary with the ingredients, I picked nuts and apple, but you can also go for dried fruit or seeds. That is one of the advantages of this recipe, you can vary with the ingredients to your own liking.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Baking time:            25 minutes

Amount:                     Approximately 7 muesli bars

Special Products:

  • Food processor
  • 2 pans
  • Baking paper
  • Oven dish or brownie mold

Egg free           Gluten free  No refined sugars added

The nuts are not organically available, so the recipe is not 100% organic. All other ingredients used in this recipe are organic.

Ingredients

  • 130 grams gluten free oatmeal
  • 50 gram unsalted nuts
  • 75 grams dates
  • 5 grams cinnamon
  • 70 milliliters honey
  • 20 milliliters water
  • 20 milliliters coconut oil
  • 1/2 apple
  • 40 gram extra dark chocolate

How to make it?

Preheat the oven on 200 degrees Celsius (372 Fahrenheit). Put the oatmeal in the bowl of the food processor and add the nuts. Remove the seeds from the dates, cut them a bit smaller and add as well. At last add the cinnamon and chop the ingredients roughly in the food processor.

Put the honey in a small pan and warm on low heat fire. When the honey becomes really liquid, you can add the water and coconut oil to it. Mix into a whole.

In the meantime the oatmeal mixture has chopped properly as well. Add to the pan with the honey mixture. Use a spatula (or spoon) to mix it into a whole. Make sure every piece of oatmeal has touched the honey mixture and it becomes a sticky whole. Peel the apple and cut in half. Cut the half into smaller pieces and mix through the mixture. You can also use more or less apple.

Lay a piece of baking paper in the oven dish and divide the muesli mixture over it. Make sure it is equally divided and approximately 1 centimeter thick. Otherwise the bars will get really thick or thin. It is better to have an equally thick mixture and a mold that is not completely filled than a completely filled mold and really thin bars.

Bake the mixture for 25 minutes in a preheated oven. Pay attention that the baking time may differ per oven. Get the dish out of the oven, let the mixture cool down a bit and cut into bars. Lay on a grid to cool down.

When the bars are cooled down you can melt the chocolate au bain marie. Grab a bigger pan and fill with water. Heat the water, but make sure it does not boil. Grab a smaller pan, lay the chocolate in it and put in the bigger pan. The chocolate will melt slowly.

Lay the bars upside down on a plate. When the chocolate has melted you can get the bars through with the bottom. I covered them with a butter tassel. Make the chocolate layer as thick as you like.

Set the plate in the fridge for approximately one hour to make the chocolate harden.

You can now enjoy these delicious healthy and gluten free muesli bars, a perfect snack when you are on the road.
